Is This Right For Me?

For those with a love for travel, helping others, and giving personalized service, becoming a travel professional is the intersection where passion and profits collide with great perks, rewards and experiences.

In our tech-driven age, travel advisors focus on personalizing experiences and trips in a seamless way, so that clients’ ideas become reality. Leisure time is our most valuable asset and we are there for our clients from the first moment they reach out until they get home safely. Our goal is to create memorable vacations through our network of expertise. We care about taking that extra step to make a client feel special.”

Some basic skills you should have OR be willing to develop are:

  • Customer Service Skills

  • Active listening and communication skills

  • The ability to consult and assist with decision making

  • The ability to be thorough and pay attention to detail

  • A genuine desire to help people before money is involved in the equation

  • The ability to carry out basic administrative tasks on a computer or hand-held device

  • Insatiable desire and appreciation for continual training

  • Discipline, passion, devotion and commitment

Becoming a Travel Agent is NOT for everybody!

It may sound fun, and you may even be enticed by the perks but make no mistake about it...some people are only meant to be customers of travel and clients of professionals. There is no limit of people who flock to this line of work for all the wrong reasons. The number 1 wrong reason to become a travel agent is because you think you will get to travel for free, all the perks, upgrades, etc. just because you're a travel agent will be quickly vacated when you see the amount of training, sacrifice and tenacity that comes with the job.

Unless you're ready to keep in contact with clients 24/7/365—no matter what time zone you’re in, they're in or what you etched out as your off day; and take on their situations as you would you own this may be the first indicator that while "technically" anyone can work in this field, only those who are fully committed, detail-oriented and meticulously organized will excel. These are the people who take on the urgency and importance of other people's vacation plans as their own. These people may not have the time, dedication or desire to:

  • Meticulously craft travel plans

  • Read the fine print

  • Convey important information to clients

  • Manage Expectations

  • Setting, adhering to and completing tasks within deadlines

  • Provide customer service

  • Work as a conflict resolution specialist

  • Committing to continual training and self development

  • Deal with rejection/lack of support from friends and family

  • Conduct their business AS A BUSINESS and not as a hobby

  • Commit to their roles and responsibilities as a PTM.

On the other hand, this may be PERFECT for you!

  • Do you have a passion for or to travel?

  • Do you have a passion for helping others?

  • You have excellent project management skills and are detail and task oriented?

  • Do you like the idea of being your own boss and living a laptop lifestyle?

Travel is a very personal thing, and that is what brings people from countless search engines that pop out cookie-cutter trips, to travel professionals to add their expertise and personal touch to every aspect of the trip. The best travel agents have empathy for what the individual traveler wants to get out of the trip, and aren't afraid to go the extra mile to make it happen. For instance, Expedia might have send your client on a beautiful trip to Cancun, you, however remembered your clients were celebrating their anniversary and was able to get a picture from their wedding to be put in the room and their favorite champagne that they popped on their wedding day delivered to their room with rose petals and an exclusive private beach dinner, those are the "little things" that make all the difference. So, is this right for you?

How Do You Earn Income?

No matter where a trip is booked, there is a commission built into the price.

  • If you book through a travel agent, he or she makes the commission.

  • If you book on a travel site, they make the commission.

  • If you book direct, the hotel, cruise or airline keeps the commission.

The question is, do you want that commission going to you, or someone else?

The bulk of your salary will come from commission, so first and foremost, you're a salesperson. Keep that in the back of your mind, but present at all times. The good news is, YOU CAN'T FORCE A PERSON TO GO ON VACATION so don't worry about having to beat people down and begging them to "try your product or service." But, you can position yourself to be the person people think of when they're ready to travel. You could benefit from taking some sales courses to help you navigate through consumer trends and develop techniques to close the deal, up-sell, and deal with rejection etc.

We offer different commission splits depending on your level of experience and desired independency starting at 75-100% commission payouts, which we call bounties. For example, let's say you have an 80–20 commission split. That means if you get paid 10 percent commission on booking a hotel, 80 percent of that commission goes to your agency while you keep 20 percent. If you've rounded up enough clients, you can become an independent agent, which means you work for yourself but remain affiliated with a host agency. As an independent agent, you lose the base salary but get to keep your commission.

Example 1:

Booking a wedding package for 16

Package For 8 Couples                                                    $803.00 (Per Person)

Commission Rate 14%                                                       $1,798.86 (Paid by Vendor)

Your Commission (75% of $1798.86)                               $1,349.10 (Bounty Payout to You)

While The Ability to Travel Like A Rockstar is A Perk...

And to others you're living the good life traveling all the time, a good portion of the time, your travel is for educational purposes. Though it is impossible to know every nook and cranny of the world inside and out, each time you're traveling, you're building your portfolio of been-there-done that to share with your clients and you begin to look at traveling through the lens of a travel advisor, rather than a tourist. Your every experience, be it tips on packing, where to eat, how to save a dollar, where to get a massage, sleep or navigate the city becomes a tell-all book of experiences you can recommend and share to your clients. This is why suppliers typically offer the incentives for travel agents to explore their properties, products and services (known as FAM or Familiarization trips.) Again, this is work. Sometimes earned through meeting a certain level of training rewarded by the supplier or randomly offered for agents to sign up for for a nominal fee. FAM trips are for educational purposes so you can expect to attend  meetings, have guided tours, and and visit different properties or multiple destinations in a single trip. Leisure time is allotted but a reward rather than the focal point of the trip.

What If I Have Previous Experience?

We have programs for experienced agents/agencies, and for those transitioning out of multi-level marketing or other host agencies. Regardless of your experience though, in order to operate under our credentials you will need to take our PTM (Professional Travel Manager's Course). You can request an interview if you feel your training or experience is enough to do the PTM Course on your own and expedite the certification process. You will still be required to sign the DBA (Doing Business As) Compliance Contracts.

What About Covid-19?

In our opinion, the Covid19 pandemic has created the perfect stand-still opportunity for new agents to come in, train, specialize and prepare for the world to begin traveling again. We believe that people will be so tired of sheltering in place that the flood-gates-to travel freely will bring great financial opportunities for those who are in position to accommodate the load of requests. It is important to keep in mind that some countries have already begin to allow US travelers and domestic travel (within the continental United States is predicted to be the new hype of the industry.

Why Can't I Join Right Away?

Due to the way our training program is set up, it is imperative that you reserve your seat for the next enrollment. We are not a recruiting mill. Therefore our course enrollments have limited seating and are structured to ensure you have a dedicated team of professionals who are committed to your success every step of the way. For that reason, you must enroll during our open periods. Once classes are filled you will need to wait until the next open enrollment window.

What If I Don't Pass

This is not a pass or fail program, our commitment is to partner with you and assist you with comprehension of the material covered. Our Girl Let's Go Associate program does require additional interview and we have a limited number of associate positions. Those who are not select will be given an opportunity to work as a Secret or Free Agent and any reimbursements owed will be rendered. Outside of that, course enrollments are non-refundable and non-transferable. Course start dates can be postponed up to (2) sessions (approximately 60 days) before enrollment fees are forfeited.  All retainers are non-refundable. All PTMs will be required to sign compliance contracts for use of our credentials.

How Long Will It Take To Be Successful

As with owning any business, it takes time and money in order to be successful. The good thing is, there are no sales minimums to hit to maintain.  We truly discourage our agents from borrowing the thought that this is a way to get rich quick. Though it can happen (depending on your version of quick) we suggest you consider this like opening a brick and mortar business, only without the overhead. In essence, you are likely to experience a shorter turn around time in terms of profit, but ultimately, it will take time and dedication to reach the level of success you desire.
